Wed, 01/11/2012

The 24th Round of Exploratory Talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) ended today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Parties had constructive discussions on substantive issues. Among the issues initially discussed were the concept of governance and the listing of reserved powers of the National Government, as contained in their respective drafts. Both Parties clarified their positions, tentatively identified areas of common ground and agreed to consult with their principals on outstanding issues. They also considered drafting road maps towards a resolution of the Bangsamoro question.

The Parties scheduled the next round of exploratory talks in February 2012.

The Parties expressed their appreciation to His Excellency President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for his commitment to a just and lasting peace in Mindanao and to His Excellency Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak for his continued support in the facilitation of the GPH-MILF Peace Talks.  The Parties also extend their gratitude to the members of the International Contact Group (ICG), namely Japan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Conciliation Resources, Muhammadiyah, and The Asia Foundation.
