GPH-MILF Joint Statement | 23rd Formal Exploratory Talks

The 23rd Round of Exploratory Talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) ended today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with both Parties reaffirming their commitment to move the peace process forward.

The Parties continued their discussions on the substantive points for purposes of crafting a framework agreement.

Both Parties agreed to renew for another year the mandate of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) which will expire in March 2012 and adopted the Terms of Reference (TOR) of its Humanitarian Rehabilitation and Development Component (HRDC).

The Parties agreed to meet again in January 2012 for the continuation of discussions on the substantive issues.

The Parties expressed their appreciation to His Excellency President Benigno Simeon Aquino III for his commitment to a just and lasting peace in Mindanao and to His Excellency Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak for his continued support in the facilitation of the GPH-MILF Peace Talks. The Parties also extend their gratitude to the members of the International Contact Group (ICG), namely Japan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Conciliation Resources, Muhammadiyah, and The Asia Foundation.
