'Violence breeds more violence' - Statement of Fr. Robert Reyes on Peace

Right now, we need to re-assess our ways during armed struggles.
Fr. Robert Reyes

Violence breeds more violence.

I have been part of the Marcos years where the military government, NPA, and cessationist parties acted violently. What I have seen and realized during that time is that violence breeds more violence. Right now, we need to re-assess our ways during armed struggles.

Both sides, the military and the cessationist groups, are not gaining anything. We have to learn from our past ways. Apparently, we have yet to learn to use peace as a means to promote and to achieve peace. In Erap’s and Marcos’ years, there hadn’t been real peace. With the President’s decision not to wage war against the MILF, I just hope that the constituencies of peace will grow. I hope that the number of peace advocates and peace workers will grow.
