Deles, AFP officials in Samar for wake of soldiers in NPA ambush

Catarman, Samar, Dec. 17 - Presidential Adviser on Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles visits Samar today for the wake of the 10 soldiers ambushed by alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and offer assistance to the bereaved families of the victims.

With her is Department of Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Ricardo David, Jr, and government chief negotiator for talks with the National Democratic Front (NDF) Alexander Padilla.

The party is in Northern Samar to visit the soldiers’ wake at 803rd Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Camp Sumuroy in Catarman.

They are also set to visit the two wounded soldiers at the Northern Samar General Hospital.

Communist rebels detonated land mines in Barangay Sta. Fe, ambushing the 12 soldiers supposed to return to their base in observance of the 19-day holiday ceasefire. A nine-year old boy was also killed in the crossfire.#
